Architects Arnhard & Eck showcase their skills in a personal project, Holzhaus am Auerbach a Bavarian forest retreat envisioned as an escape from hectic city life for friend’s and family. Concentrating on quality rather than quantity, thick, solid wood has been used to create an old-fashioned woodland cottage with a dark, contemporary feel thanks to its matt grey finish. Split across two levels, the narrow home uses a clever energy-saving system in accordance with the company’s green ethos, its interior continuing the moody color scheme, as subdued shades are contrasted against unpainted wood panels, furninshing sparse and decidedly modern. Two featured set this getaway house apart; the incredible over-sized pink lined door and the ‘packaway’ terrace that extends from the kitchen and dining room via large sliding doors. The perfect place to enjoy summer in scenic Lower Bavaria.
